• Moth Insipred Drone Stays Steady In Strong Winds

Researchers at Physical Sciences Inc (PSI) have developed moth inspired drones able to maintain stability in high velocity winds and storms.

By recording moths with reflective beads on their wings via a high speed camera, researchers were able to determine how moths were able to recover from instability within a couple of wing flaps. The resulting drone weighs in at less than 500grams and can withstand winds of up to 88km/h, much improved over their larger cousins which are able to stand around 50km/h but at the cost of much larger systems.
